Out in the desert, the incompetent inventor Langstrom Fischler tests his latest innovation, the Fischler Weather Drones, with the aim of transforming the arid wasteland into lush farmland. As Fischler and his team watch from the top of a tall observation tower, the drones generate an electrical field that creates rain – but then the devices malfunction, creating a violent storm cloud that attacks the control tower. When Lady Penelope, Parker and Bertie arrive in <I>FAB 1</I> for the unveiling of Fischler’s new environmental project, they report the storm to <I>International Rescue</I>; John contacts Fischler, now trapped with his team in the tower control room and under siege from the drones, but the so-called genius refuses to acknowledge any problem. While Brains examines Fischler’s code to identify the malfunction, <I>International Rescue</I> mounts a rescue mission with Virgil and Gordon in <I>Thunderbird 2</I> and Kayo in <I>Thunderbird Shadow</I>; they soon arrive on the scene, where <I>FAB 1</I> is under attack from a drone, and the rest of the rogue devices are weakening the tower’s structure with their lightning bolts. While Kayo draws the drones away with <I>Thunderbird Shadow</I>, Gordon creates a Repair Pod from the kit in <I>Pod 2</I> and starts climbing the tower, and Virgil uses <I>Thunderbird 2</I>’s grapple to stabilise the structure. Unfortunately, the storm’s lightning is too much for <I>Thunderbird 2</I>’s electric charge nullifiers, and Virgil is forced to retreat; the Repair Pod is also struck by lightning, knocking it off balance and throwing Gordon out of the cabin. Luckily for Gordon he is saved by <I>Thunderbird Shadow</I> and dropped off at the top of the tower, where he manages to get inside the control room before the drones can zap him. With the storm still raging, <I>International Rescue</I> must re-think their strategy – but the badly-damaged tower won’t stay standing for very much longer…
