'Firebreak' by Patrick Rieger |
Trapped in an outbreak of forest fires, two rescue scouts, Bee and Henry, take refuge in an abandoned Crablogger vehicle; but when they try using its radio, the ancient machine’s systems activate and lock down the vehicle, trapping the children inside. On Tracy Island, Brains gives the go-ahead for the new Zero-XL craft that will enable International Rescue to search for the missing Jeff Tracy. The boys are contacted by Fire Chief Carter, whose men are dealing with the forest fires, but need help to rescue the trapped scouts. Scott blasts off in Thunderbird 1, while Virgil, Gordon and Alan take Thunderbird 2, equipped withPod 2. Scott tries airlifting the scouts, but the Crablogger senses fire, and its suppressant gas interferes with Thunderbird 1’s engines. Jetpacking to the Crablogger, Scott deactivates the vehicle’s sensors, which unlocks the cabin door; while he and the scouts shelter from the intense flames outside, Virgil uses fire suppressant grenades and a Pod filled with water from the nearby reservoir to douse the flames – but more fires keep appearing. Planning to flood the area, Gordon uses a Gecko Land Pod to set charges on the reservoir wall, while Alan uses the Firefly to dig a trench to protect the town from flooding. But the Crablogger’s power has almost drained, and unless the Tracy brothers’ plan works soon, Scott and the children will be burnt alive…
