'Designated Driver' by David Baddiel |
Scott tricks Alan into taking Thunderbird 1 on an urgent mission to Lady Penelope’s country estate – where Parker is going to teach him how to drive! To Alan’s further dismay, Parker takes him out not in FAB 1, but the antiquated FAB 0, driving through the estate’s grounds at a top speed of 4 mph. Back at the mansion, a nervous Lady Penelope entertains her Great Aunt Sylvia, providing her with copious cups of tea while trying to avoid any mention of involvement with International Rescue. Meanwhile, two bungling burglars, Bob and Terry, decide to take advantage of Parker’s absence to rob the mansion; breaking in through a window, the vile villains order Penelope to hand over her treasure, refusing to believe her protests that she has nothing valuable. Responding to Penelope’s secret alarm, Alan takes over FAB 0’s controls and races back to the mansion; unfortunately he crashes the vehicle, breaking Parker’s arm in the process. When Great Aunt Sylvia manages to activate a hidden panel in the living room, the burglars are excited to find Penelope’s hidden safe, but bizarrely it only contains a silver teapot. Hearing that Great Aunt Sylvia is married to one of the richest men in the country, the thieves change their plan, and decide to kidnap the two women instead. Having righted FAB 0 using its aerial jets, Alan and Parker arrive just in time to see the villains drive off in FAB 1 with their two captives. With Parker injured it is up to Alan to give chase in FAB 0 – and FAB 1 in the wrong hands can be a very dangerous vehicle…
