'Break Out' by Ben Townsend |
Brains’ test of the latest version of the T-Drive engine ends in disaster yet again - the drive explodes, destroying the test rig in the process. In desperation Brains suggests asking for help from the engineer who built the original drive: The Mechanic! Lady Penelope and Parker pay a visit to Colonel Casey for access to the villainous engineer, but the soldier denies their request – until she learns that the drive is needed to rescue Jeff Tracy, believed to be still alive and lost far out in space, in the Oort Cloud. Their conversation is overheard by a spy in the GDF, a soldier who contacts the Hood… With permission granted, Alan and Kayo take Thunderbird 3 out into space, to the top-secret GDF prison known as ‘The Hex’, where they are greeted by Captain Rigby. The Hood sends the Chaos Crew to break the Mechanic out of prison; but when Havoc frees the engineer from his cell, he refuses to be taken back to his former master. Detecting intruders, Rigby locks down the base; but Fuse retaliates, launching a missile attack from the Chaos Cruiser that shatters the prison. Trapped inside in a broken section of the Hex, Captain Rigby is sent spinning into the surrounding space minefield. Kayo is captured by the Chaos Crew, and locked in the Mechanic’s cell – leaving Fuse and Havoc free to kidnap the Mechanic…
