Lady Penelope and Parker visit the Orbital Solar Energy array, a new operation to transmit power to the Earth. Desperate to secure the approval of the World Council, Sales Director Hayley Edmonds orders the station technician, Mr Kinnear, to boost the power to maximum; but this destabilises the beam, unleashing bolts of plasma energy into the sea below. A passing cargo plane carrying a rare Giant Panda is caught in the energy beams, and as its controls go haywire, the pilot sends a mayday to <I>International Rescue</I>. While Scott, Virgil and Gordon race to the scene in <I>Thunderbirds 1</I> and <I>2</I>, Brains traces the source of the plasma lightning to the upper exosphere; John contacts Lady Penelope with a warning to deactivate the array’s transmission beam, but Kinnear reports that the system has overloaded – the array will soon explode and take down every plane in the Pacific Ocean. <I>Thunderbirds 1</I> and <I>2</I> reach the stricken aircraft, only to be struck by the energy beams as well; luckily Scott, Virgil and Gordon are able to reset the rescue crafts’ electrical systems, enabling them to regain control. Connecting <I>Thunderbird 2</I> to the plummeting plane with an evacuation tube, Virgil dons an exo-suit to cut his way inside to reach the crew. Meanwhile, the selfish Miss Edmonds has bailed in an escape pod, leaving Kinnear, Lady Penelope and Parker stranded on the array; they attempt to reach the reset button in the engine room, only to discover that the rising temperature has made the metal flooring red-hot. With the crew of the plane safety aboard <I>Thunderbird 2</I>, Virgil is about to transfer the panda’s crate when the evacuation tube snaps in two; Virgil has only minutes to save himself and the panda before the plane crashes into the ocean…
