'The Most Toys' (Story Code 170) by Shari Goodhartz

Lieutenant Commander Data's shuttlecraft explodes while on a mission, apparently destroying him. Despite the efforts of his friend, Lieutenant Geordi LaForge, the U.S.S. Enterprise crew are unable to determine any suspicious circumstances concerning the accident; the ship continues on its mission to supply a Federation colony with rare hytritium, to help neutralise their contaminated water. But unknown to them, Kivas Fajo, the trader who supplied the hytritium, instigated the shuttle explosion as a means to capture Data and so that he can add the android to his collection of unique and valuable objects. Finding himself held captive on Fajo's ship, Data uses passive resistance to defy the collector; however, when Fajo threatens to kill his own assistant, Varria, with a disrupter gun Data realises that he has no choice but to comply. Will his friends aboard the Enterprise discover that he is still alive, or is Data doomed to be an exhibit in Fajo's collection forever?
