While transporting delegates to an important Federation conference to be held on the planet Pacifica, the <I>U.S.S. Enterprise</I> collects two ambassadors from the newly-discovered planet of Antede III; these fish-like aliens are unused to space flight, and so place themselves in self-induced comas for the duration of the voyage. Then Lwaxana Troi, Counselor Troi's overbearing mother, pays an unexpected visit to the <I>Enterprise</I>; she too is to attend the meeting on Pacifica, and is delighted to see Captain Picard. Feeling awkward at being the subject of Mrs. Troi's amorous advances, the captain turns to Counselor Troi for advice, only to learn that Lwaxana is at ‘The Phase’ - the time when a Betazoid woman's sex drive increases tenfold… Picard decides to seek refuge in the holodeck, but this only serves to make Lwaxana turn her attentions elsewhere - and she soon announces to the astonished crew that she and Commander Riker are to be married...
