The <I>U.S.S. Enterprise</I> is sent on a mission to bring medical aid to the survivors of a planet rocked by a lethal explosion. However, while en route, the Federation vessel is brought to a standstill by Q, the mysterious entity the crew met during their earlier mission to Farpoint station. Q demands that Picard abandon his rescue mission to take part in a deadly game that could result in either the greatest possible future for the crew - or their death. He transports several members of the bridge crew down to the surface of a nearby planet, and forces them to fight vicious, animal-like soldiers. Worf and Wesley are killed, and when Commander Riker excels in the conflict, Q grants him omnipotent powers like his, and then offers him full membership in the Q-Continuum…
