The U.S.S. Enterprise arrives at Bre'el IV in order to investigate a descending asteroidal moon that could cause earthquakes and tidal waves on the planet. But when Q - the omnipotent and mischievous alien being who has plagued them in the past - suddenly appears, Captain Picard immediately suspects he is responsible for the moon's deteriorating orbit. However, Q reveals that this event is not his doing - his superiors in the Q-Continuum have now stripped him of his powers and made him human. While the Enterprise crew attempts to find a solution to the situation on Bre'el IV, Picard assigns Lieutenant Commander Data to watch over Q. But Q’s humanity soon causes problems when a gas-like life form called the Calamarain appears and takes out its grievance against Q by attacking him…
