The <I>U.S.S Enterprise</I> arrives at Starbase 74 so that the Bynars, a race of beings with an affinity for computers, can upgrade the vessel's computer system. After the Bynars come aboard, Captain Picard and Commander Riker take time out in the holodeck; here the First Officer meets Minuet, a beautiful computer-generated woman, and quickly becomes captivated by her charms. Meanwhile, the Binars reprogram the computer to make it appear that the ship's magnetic containment field is deteriorating; unable to locate Captain Picard and Commander Riker, Lieutenant Commander Data evacuates the ship and sends it back into space to avoid damaging the Starbase in the 'imminent' explosion. Realising that Minuet has been created by the Binars to keep them busy, Picard and Riker leave the holodeck, only to discover that the <I>Enterprise</I> is completely empty - except for the Bynars, who have seized control of the vessel and are now piloting the hijacked ship back to their home planet...
