The <I>Enterprise</I> crew encounters an alien race in desperate need of medical and scientific assistance. When Dr. Phlox declines to assist the aliens because of his ethical beliefs, Archer is left to decide whether to help a dying alien race, thereby altering the natural course of evolution.
