The Shadow Passes
'The Shadow Passes' by Paul Cornell |
The Doctor takes her friends to the scenic planet of Calapia, but instead of relaxing they find themselves stuck in an underground bunker for three weeks, as the population of six-faced Calapians shelters from the Death Moon that passes over the planet every sixty-four years. As they while away the days playing board and party games together, Yaz notices the normally over-energetic Doctor has started to relax, which leads her to realise that instead of stressing out at their confinement, she has begun to calm too. At Graham's suggestion, the Doctor, Yaz and Ryan join the Calapians to thank them for the food, and they spend the remaining days socialising with their hosts, and helping to cook and distribute their food. On the last night the Doctor and her fam join the Calapians for a meal in remembrance of what has gone and those who have been lost. The next morning, everyone leaves the shelter; emerging into the sunlight and fresh air on the surface, they all appreciate what they have been through, and how the experience has changed them for the better...
