As Matt, Abby and Emily evaluate the ‘New Dawn’ records they have stolen from Connor’s database, the A.R.C.s Anomaly Detector sounds an alert: the A.D. has detected an anomaly in Connor’s laboratory! Rushing to the scene, the trio are astonished to see a tiny, glowing portal in the middle of the lab: the first man-made anomaly in history; Connor and his assistant, April, are overjoyed at their success – but the rest of the team can only look on in horror… At Philip’s behest, Matt agrees to leave the anomaly unlocked, but places a guard on it to maintain security. Meanwhile, Connor tries to make Abby see the value of ‘New Dawn’, harvesting the power of the anomalies to end the world’s energy crisis, but his girlfriend has serious doubts on Philip’s philanthropy, putting more strain on their relationship. Back at Connor’s lab, a large beetle scurries out of the anomaly; the guard immediately throws it back in – only to be overwhelmed as thousands of the creatures swarm through the portal. The incursion triggers the A.R.C.’s security systems, which lock down the base and order the evacuation of all non-essential personnel. Ordering Emily to safety, Matt remains behind with Abby, Connor and Captain Becker, planning to flood the laboratory with insecticide to deal with the massive swarm of beetles now infesting the room; however, the creatures quickly eat through the lab’s reinforced-concrete walls, and as they begin crawling throughout the entire complex, another beetle emerges from the anomaly, this one much larger than all the others: the queen. Unless Matt and the team can find a way of dealing with the infestation, it will only be a matter of time before the city, and then the entire planet, will be overrun by the ravenous swarm…
