Episode 5.2 by Steve Bailie |
After an enormous anomaly opens in the middle of the North Sea, a giant plesiosaur swims through and attacks the Royal Navy nuclear submarine H.M.S. Gartside… At the A.R.C., Matt informs Abby that, as part of his mission to prevent the apocalyptic future from which he has travelled, he has hacked into the ‘Prospero’ records and learnt that Philip has bought a discussed power station. Abby is torn between her loyalty to Connor and her distrust of Philip: Connor has been sworn to secrecy about his work on ‘New Dawn’, and firmly believes he is working for the good of humanity. As the A.D. picks up the anomaly in the North Sea, Lester receives a call from the Admiralty, who need the team’s help to investigate the incident with H.M.S. Gartside. Arriving at the dock, Matt, Abby and Connor meet Captain Yates and his skeleton crew. As the vessel sets off for the anomaly, Connor rewires a torpedo with an anomaly jamming device, while Abby examines the corpse of a juvenile therapod that had been caught on the boat’s hull; discovering that the creature is still alive and in a state of shock, Abby and one of the officers immediately lock the dinosaur in the boat’s freezer. Back at the A.R.C., Lester receives a visit from the overbearing Admiral Marston, who has come to supervise the mission – and resolve it at any cost. Approaching the anomaly, Captain Yates orders the release of a sonar array to report the sub’s position; but then the plesiosaur appears: as it takes a bite at the array, it wraps the towing cable around the sub’s propeller, jamming it fast. In the ensuing chaos the Gartside. loses primary power and heads straight for the anomaly, Captain Yates is knocked unconscious, and the door to the freezer opens, allowing the therapod to escape and begin picking off the crew. Out of control and with the angry plesiosaur right behind it, the sub goes through the portal and into the Jurassic Era…
