Episode 4.5 by John Fay and Adrian Hodges |
Connor is delighted when Philip offers him the opportunity to head up a team investigating anomalies outside of the A.R.C., but Abby is less than enthused, suspicious of the private financier’s motives. Meanwhile, Lester reprimands Matt for harbouring Emily in secret, and Jess detects a new, unstable anomaly at the coastal town of Witchfield Cove. Connor, Abby and Matt are despatched, and learn of a local legend of a terrible monster called the Witchfield Worm. While Matt checks out the headland area where a camper recently disappeared whilst investigating the Worm, Abby and Connor search the surrounding area; they soon come across an apparently disused farm, where they find traces of mucus – and then receive an unfriendly welcome from a woman named Moira Lennon, and her son, Ray, who have set up an illegal still turning farm diesel into cheap petrol. Elsewhere, Matt saves a fisherman from an attack by the worm, in fact a vicious prehistoric amphibian known as a Labyrinthodont. Back at the A.R.C., Jess plays Lester CCTV footage from Matt’s flat showing Emily’s abduction by Ethan, and advises that they can track the woman with the black box she took from Matt; taking charge, Lester recalls Matt and directs him to where Emily is now being held prisoner, in a crypt at Tower Hill Cemetery. Back at the cove, Abby and Connor split up: Abby tracks the Worm to a nearby trailer park, where she saves two children from its attack, only to be trapped inside a camper van under siege by the creature. Meanwhile, Connor traces the fluctuating anomaly to a cave on the beach, unaware that a second Labyrinthodont is inside. Back at the trailer park, Abby drives the van - with the enraged Labyrinthodont clinging to its roof - to rendezvous with Connor; but then the creature breaks through the cabin roof, causing Abby to crash the vehicle…
