Episode 4.4 by Paul Gerstenberger |
At McKinnon School on a Saturday morning, three pupils reluctantly attend a detention class. But when their teacher, Mr George, leaves to get a snack from a vending machine in the hall, he is attacked by a deadly therocephalian – a half reptile, half-mammal with a venomous bite… At the Anomaly Research Centre, Abby is shocked to learn that Philip longer accepts the risks posed by her menagerie, and has ordered that all the creatures be put down, even Rex. As the Anomaly Detector sounds an alert, Abby remains behind while Connor and Captain Becker head for the school; they arrive in time to meet Matt, who has left Emily in the safety of his apartment. Back in class, Beth decides to avoid her geeky detainees and play in the gym; the two boys, Steve and Darren, go to the school admin office to play on the computer equipment, only to see the arrival of the gun-bearing Matt, Becker and Connor. Believing the men to be the police, the boys panic and activate the school security system, locking all the doors and turning off the lights. Cut off from Connor, Matt and Becker follow a trail of blood and body parts, while Connor attempts to locate the pupils and get them to safety. Keeping a watchful eye on Beth, Jess is horrified to see the therocephalian appear in the gym; she urges Matt and Becker to intercept the creature – but they are hampered by the locked doors, and Beth is torn apart before Jess’ eyes. Shaken by what she has just witnessed, Jess refuses to help Abby rescue the menagerie creatures. Arriving in the gym, Becker and Matt deal with the therocephalian – but then Jess informs them that dozens more of the creatures are now emerging from the anomaly…
