Episode 3.3 by Mike Cullen |
At the headquarters of ‘The Evening News’, journalist Mick Harper persuades his editor to give him one last chance to prove his story of a governmental cover up on dinosaur incidents. At the Anomaly Research Centre, now on high alert after Helen’s recent attempt to infiltrate the building, Connor’s work on a device to seal the anomalies by reversing their polarity is interrupted by the A.D.’s alarm: a portal has opened in the West London Hospital. Connor, Cutter and the rest of the team rush to the site, unaware that Harper is following closely behind them… Helen also detects the anomaly on her portable device, and sees it as an opportunity to breach the A.R.C.; as well as her clone soldiers, she also has a new weapon: a clone of Cutter… Arriving at the hospital, Cutter and his colleagues discover an infestation of Diictodons, small, cute, beaver-like creatures that have gnawed their way throughout the building’s infrastructure. Mick locks Cutter and Abby in a room with the portal and a pregnant woman about to give birth, then manages to take a photograph of one of the Diictodons. After Abby delivers the baby – her first human birth! – she hatches a plan to send the tiny dinosaurs back through the portal; her idea works, but then the anomaly suddenly closes, stranding one of the creatures; then Connor and Captain Becker arrive on the scene with another Diictodon that they have also captured. Helen sends the Cutter Clone into the A.R.C. to deactivate the building’s main security gate, and it isn’t long before they have taken over the main control room; Lester, Jenny and Sarah are stunned to find themselves held prisoner at gunpoint by Cutter, who has apparently betrayed them. The real Cutter returns to the base, where he comes face-to-face with his duplicate. Helen explains that she used technology from the future to create the copy, part of her plan to save the world – she has seen the future, a world in which the Predators have killed every living thing, and the only way to prevent it from happening is to stop Cutter’s work into the anomalies… Locked in a supply cupboard with her friends, Sarah proposes a way to countermand Helen’s control over her soldier, by re-editing a sound file taken from the CCTV. Cutter condemns Helen’s scheme to alter history, and refuses to identify the artefact she stole, even though he recognises it as the same material as The Sun Cage, magnetic rock containing several tiny anomalies trapped within. Having freed his teammates, Becker escorts Connor to the P.A. room, where they play out the file, overriding Helen’s control over her soldiers. Furious, Helen orders her Cutter Clone to activate a bomb to destroy the A.R.C.; Nick tries to stop his duplicate – but the clone presses the button and the bomb explodes…
