“I’ve set the TARDIS to ‘Adventure Setting!’” – The Doctor
Travelling with the Doctor once more, Amy remarks on the fact that it has been ages since the Doctor had an adventure, when according to ‘The Intrepid Universe Traveller Handbook’, he should have one at least once a week. The Doctor rises to the bait and sets the TARDIS on ‘Adventure Setting’ – which immediately causes the ship’s console to explode, badly singeing the Time Lord’s hair in the process. The Doctor attempts to alter the setting, but the ship goes out of control and crash lands slap bang in the middle of the 2012 Olympics – and then an athlete bursts into the TARDIS control room, carrying the Olympic Torch itself! Pausing only to remark on the state of the Doctor’s hair, the torch-bearer explains that he is being chased by something terrible – and when the Doctor and Amy look past him, they see the terrifying figure of a Weeping Angel! The Doctor and Amy’s warning not to blink is spoilt by an explosion from the TARDIS console, and when they and their athletic visitor turn back to look at the invading creature, they are shocked to see that it has now moved and snatched the Olympic Torch! Realising that the Angel wants to destroy the very spirit of respect, excellence and friendship that the iconic torch represents, the Doctor whips out his sonic screwdriver and fires it at the evil monster: as the Weeping Angel explodes into pieces, the Olympic athlete leaps forward and grabs the Torch before it can break. Thanking the Doctor for his help, the Torch-Bearer tosses his medal to the Time Lord, a gift for being as “good as gold”. As the athlete heads back outside to light the Olympic flame, the Doctor and Amy resume their quest for adventure. But, unseen behind them in the control room, the badly-damaged Weeping Angel begins to reform…
