'Farewell, Sarah Jane' by Russell T Davies |
It is the remembrance service for Sarah Jane Smith, and Luke, Clyde and Rani are overjoyed to see the venue full of Sarah’s friends, all gathered to pay their respects. As well as Maria and her father over video link, and Rani’s parents Gita and Haresh, the three best friends catch up with Jo Jones, Dorothy McShane, Kate Stewart, Tegan and Nyssa, Ben and Polly Jackson, Ian and Barbara Chesterton, Martha and Mickey Smith, and their son August, as well as Dodo Chaplet, Doctor Holloway, Liz Shaw, Victoria Waterfield, Captain Jack Harkness and even Sky. The afternoon goes well - apart from an incident with the Trickster and his Jackals of the Backwards Clock, who are quickly dealt with by the assembled attendees - and as events draw to a close, everyone swaps numbers and promises to meet up in a year’s time as the ‘Family Smith’. After bidding goodbye to their friends, Luke gives K-9 to Dorothy, and then drives Clyde and Rani back to Number 13, Bannerman Road. Here they carry out Sarah’s last wishes, closing down Mr Smith and leaving the house to wait for its next owner. As the three friends depart with a vow to meet again at Christmas, Rani wonders if Sarah really has gone, instead choosing to believe that the Doctor came back for his Sarah Jane, for one last trip in space and time…
