'Spike': 'A Dark Place' (Part 5) by Victor Gischler

Spike and the bugs pursue Morgan to Easter Island, where the demon is attempting to command the great stone idols to open the Hellmouth. Unfortunately for Morgan her influence is ineffective: the ancient creatures pull themselves out of the ground and attempt to kill her instead. While Spike comes to Morgan’s rescue the bug ship opens fire on the stone monsters – but they combine into a single, giant creature that easily shrugs off the attack. Desperate to save his master, Sebastian orders his crew to evacuate and then sets his ship on a collision course; his sacrifice is not in vain, and the enormous stone idol is destroyed in the resulting explosion. In the aftermath the bugs, Morgan and Spike have some important decisions to make about their future…
