'The Son Also Rises' Story Code: '318' by Michael Angeli |
After her ship was destroyed under the stresses of the maelstrom, Starbuck has been officially declared dead. Her death comes as a terrible blow to those close to her: Adama weeps while looking through her career records; Anders gets drunk and climbs atop a Viper, only to slip and break his leg; while Apollo is unable to concentrate on his job, muddling his orders to his pilots, and even addressing Racetrack as “Starbuck”. Aboard Colonial One, President Roslin draws the names of the five judges required for Baltar’s tribunal, and is struck by the irony that Adama is one of those picked. When Baltar’s lawyer is killed in an explosion as he steps aboard his transport ship, it becomes apparent that a saboteur is at work. Apollo is furious to find himself pulled from his duties and assigned by Adama to provide security detail to Baltar’s new attorney, an astute yet unsettling man named Romo Lampkin, who was taught his trade by Joseph Adama, Apollo’s grandfather. The two men immediately clash, particularly when Lampkin insists on meeting his client in the secure confines of Apollo’s own quarters. Baltar himself is showing further signs of instability and stress, continuing to write his manifesto, and obsessing over Caprica Six. When Lampkin asks Apollo to accompany him to Colonial One to retrieve some files for his case, Apollo begrudgingly agrees; together they join Athena aboard a transport ship – unaware that the saboteur has attached a bomb to the underbelly of the vessel…
