'Precipice' Story Code: '302' by Ronald D. Moore |
Duck’s suicide bombing of the New Caprica Police graduation ceremony has dealt the Cylons a crippling blow. Appalled at the extreme measures that the Colonial Resistance has employed, Baltar asks Roslin to give a public condemnation of the event, but the ex-president refuses to comply. As a result, Jammer and the rest of the NCP are given a list of the names of suspected dissidents, and instructed to bring them in for questioning under cover of night. Having sent a situation report to Admiral Adama via the Raptor in orbit around the planet, Tyrol returns home to find his baby lying abandoned – with shock he realises that his wife Cally has been taken prisoner as a suspect. Leoben stuns Starbuck with the news that the Cylons managed to salvage her ovary from the breeding farm on Caprica – thanks to a surrogate mother, Kara is now the mother of a child, a half-human, half-Cylon girl named Casey. Starbuck is horrified, and wants nothing to do with the child; however, when Casey badly hurts herself on the stairs, Starbuck’s maternal instincts come to the fore, and she rushes the child to hospital. On the Galactica, Adama’s decision to reinstate the Cylon replicant Boomer as a member of the fleet is vehemently opposed by Apollo; Adama ignores his son’s protestations, and after sending Boomer to New Caprica to make contact with the Resistance, he orders Apollo to take the Pegasus and resume the search for Earth. Roslin’s attempts to dissuade Tigh from his strategy of suicide bombings falls on deaf ears; the Colonel firmly believes that they need to employ every means possible to hold out against their oppressors until Adama can return with the fleet. But when a second suicide bombing destroys their power station, the Cylon government decides to implement more extreme measures; at gunpoint, they force Baltar to sign an order for the summary execution of the two hundred human prisoners held in the Detention Centre…
