'The Pegasus' Story Code: '210' by Anne Cofell Saunders |
When an unidentified craft is detected approaching the fleet, the Galactica prepares to make an emergency jump. However, when the vessel transmits valid Colonial recognition codes, Adama and his crew are delighted to learn that they have been found by the survivors of the Battlestar Pegasus, under the command of Admiral Cain. The Admiral wastes no time in coming aboard the Galactica, and a happy reunion is made amongst the two crews. Sharing a drink with Commander Adama, Cain explains that the Pegasus was docked at the Scorpio shipyards when the Cylons attacked Caprica; seven hundred crewmen were killed, and the survivors only managed to escape when Cain ordered a blind jump; it seems that Cain and her crew have been tracking the Cylons for some time, and it was her decision to extrapolate their enemy’s course to learn what they were pursuing that led to their discovery of the Galactica. Obeying the chain of command, Adama hands over control of the fleet to Cain, but the Admiral informs him that he will still have full control over the Galactica. Meanwhile, Tigh shares a drink Colonel Fisk and learns that Cain shot her previous First Officer when he refused to carry out her reckless order to attack the Cylons. The crews of the two Battlestars begin to interact, but it soon becomes apparent that the arrogant Pegasus personnel view the Galactica crew with contempt. When Cain informs Adama that her recon team have detected two Cylon base ships and a larger, unidentified vessel, Adama readily agrees with her plan to combine their resources to mount an attack; however, Adama is less than pleased to learn that Cain has ordered Apollo and Starbuck to be transferred to the Pegasus. Meanwhile, Baltar discovers that Cain has a Cylon prisoner on board, and when he and Number 6 pay a visit to the Pegasus brig, they are shocked to find another version of 6 lying in a traumatised state, the result of brutal torture. Back on the Galactica, Fisk attempts to rape Boomer during her interrogation; Tyrol and Helo rush to stop him, but in the ensuing fight Fisk hits his head on a bulkhead and is killed. Tyrol and Helo are immediately taken for court martial on the Pegasus – where Cain declares them guilty and orders their immediate execution…
