'Occupation' Story Code: '301' by Ronald D. Moore |
Sixteen months ago, the majority of the Colonial fleet’s population chose to settle on New Caprica under the leadership of President Baltar. Four months ago, the Cylons arrived and seized control of the planet and its citizens. Outnumbered, Admiral Adama and the crews of the Galactica and Pegasus had no recourse by to jump to safety… Now on the 134th day of occupation, life under Cylon rule continues under harsh conditions, as the enemy government works to bring “The Word of God” to humanity. While Resistance members Chief Tyrol and Anders blow up a Cylon vessel, Ellen Tigh prostitutes herself to Brother Cavil so that her husband, Saul, can be freed from imprisonment and torture inside the Detention Centre. Starbuck finds herself forced to live with a humanoid Cylon named Leoben Conoy, who seemingly wants nothing but her love and affection – even though she has murdered him again and again. The Cylons begin recruiting and training select humans for the New Caprica Police, an act seen as collaboration in the eyes of the Resistance. Although still working for Baltar, Gaeta manages to supply Tyrol with secret information, including the security plans for the forthcoming NCP graduation; having rejoined his fellow freedom fighters, Tigh immediately sees this as an opportunity to strike a major blow against their oppressors. Elsewhere, what remains of the Colonial fleet is struggling to cope with falling morale; as inexperienced crewmen are called upon to stretch themselves to breaking point, a training exercise for the rookie Viper pilots ends in a collision between two fighters. With no word received from New Caprica for four months, Admiral Adama has become wracked with guilt for deserting the people under his care. Relations between Adama and his son have also become strained, now that Commander Apollo has grown fat and complacent from lack of action. But after Gaeta passes Tyrol the Cylons’ jamming frequencies, the Chief manages to get a signal to an orbiting Raptor sent by Adama – a glimmer of hope has appeared for the oppressed Colonials…
