'Kobol's Last Gleaming' (Part 2) Story Code: '113' by Ronald D. Moore Story by David Eick |
On the surface of Kobol, the crew of the crashed Raptor 1 barely manage to escape the wreckage before the ship explodes. Meanwhile, on Caprica, Helo and his prisoner, ‘Boomer’, make their way to the capitol’s museum, which the injured ‘Boomer’ insists holds the key to escaping the planet. On the Galactica, Commander Adama contacts President Rosen over Starbuck’s decision to abandon her mission and set off for Caprica in the commandeered Cylon raider; when the President admits that it was she who instructed Starbuck to return home for the artefact known as ‘The Arrow of Apollo’ Adama is furious, and demands Rosen’s immediate resignation. However, the President refuses, knowing that the members of the press that are with her will ensure that Adama will not attempt a political coup; Adama responds by jamming all signals from Colonial 1. While he plans his next move Adama orders Boomer to take a Raptor equipped with a captured Cylon transponder on a high risk mission: to infiltrate the perimeter of the Cylon Baseship in orbit around Kobol and destroy it with a nuclear warhead. Starbuck manages to get past a squad of Cylon raiders and lands outside Caprica’s museum; elsewhere, ‘Boomer’ reveals to Helo that she is pregnant with their child. Boomer and Racetrack make it past the Cylons, but when they prepare to launch the bomb they discover that its mechanism is jammed - they will have to dock with the Cylon Baseship and release the warhead manually. On the surface of Kobol, Chief Petty Officer Tyrol comes to realise that his superior officer, Crashdown, may not have the experience they need to get off the Cylon-occupied world alive; meanwhile, Number 6 leads Baltar away from the group to show him his destiny. On Caprica, Starbuck finds the Arrow in a display case, but she is then attacked by one of the Number 6 replicas. After a brutal fight Starbuck manages to impale the Cylon with the artefact; she is then found by Helo, but her elation turns to shock when she sees ‘Boomer’ - and realises that woman and her counterpart on the Galactica are Cylon replicas. On the Cylon Baseship, Boomer works on releasing the warhead - only to be confronted by several of her Cylon copies, and experience that sends her over the edge of sanity. Apollo, Colonel Tigh and a team of guards board Colonial 1 and prepare to arrest the President - but then Apollo has a sudden change of mind, and instead turns his gun on Tigh…
