'Islanded in a Stream of Stars' Story Code: '418' by Michael Taylor |
With Boomer’s escape with Hera adding to the already excessive damage to the Galactica’s hull, tempers flare amongst the repair crew. When Ellen surmises that Cavil will take Hera to ‘The Colony’ for study, Starbuck insists that a rescue mission be mounted to retrieve the child seen as the key to the future of both humanity and the Cylons; although Admiral Adama turns down the request, he allows Starbuck take out a small recon team to begin a search. Then disaster strikes: the Galactica’s hull finally gives up, venting a section into space and killing sixty-one crewmembers, including twenty-six Cylons. While Adama is torn between leading his people to safety and abandoning the ship, Apollo faces the anger of the Quorum of Twelve, who demand that the vessel be cut up for scrap and its resources redeployed amongst the fleet. En route to Cavil, Boomer is astonished to learn that Hera can see her ‘safe haven’ projection. Starbuck pays a visit to Baltar, challenging his talk of heaven with the revelation of the body she found back on Earth; she then becomes furious when she discovers that the Cylons have connected Anders to their baseship’s systems; Starbuck makes to shoot her husband and end his suffering – but stops when he accesses the systems of both the baseship and the Galactica. After seeking Roslin’s advice in sickbay, Adama conducts a funeral ceremony for those lost in the hull breach; but Baltar sees this as an opportunity to preach his message of everlasting life after death – using Starbuck as proof that an angel walks among them…
