'Short Trips': 'A Song For Running' (1 Part) by Sophie Illes |
During a winter night's storm in Kingsbeck, 1951, schoolgirl Maggie is lured by a strange voice and music to a huge standing stone in the woods; here she encounters the Doctor, who warns of a creature only she can hear, and only he can see. Together they learn that the creature, Galedear, needs their help to return home. Deducing that the stone was hit during the War's bombing, breaking the circuit of the power within in, Maggie and the Doctor use pages torn from a schoolbook to fill the cracks with paper pulp. The stone bursts with artron energy, activating a portal that Galedear uses to return home. But Maggie is frightened to return home herself, concerned that her performance at school will let down her parents; but with some kind words of encouragement from the Doctor, Maggie's confidence is quickly boosted, and she goes home smiling.
