'Path of Lies' by Rick Schwartz and Nancy Ann Miller

Caught in a shoot-out with two aliens at ‘Plato’s Bar’, Harrison and Kincaid are photographed by investigative reporter Marc Traynor; one creature is killed, but the other manages to escape and warn his superiors of the compromise to Morthren security. Excited at his pictures of the dying alien, Traynor takes them to his editor, Rob Nunn, at the ‘Midtown Herald’; however, Nunn is sceptical of the authenticity of the photos, and when he refers them to the newspaper’s owner, the wealthy Bebe Gardner, the story is suppressed. Unknown to Traynor and Nunn, the company controlling the ‘Herald’ is run by dying millionaire Mr Samuels, who has made a deal with Morthren scientist Ardix, promising access to an important senate sub-committee in exchange for a serum that will prolong his life. Meanwhile, Harrison and Kincaid race to track down Traynor and retrieve his negatives – should the pictures be published, the identities of the Blackwood Project will be revealed, making them easy targets for the invaders…
