"Martians on motorcycles."

On Halloween in 1938, the town of Grover's Mill became famous as the setting for Orson Welles’ radio adaptation of ‘The War of the Worlds’ – a presentation that caused terror amongst its listeners, who mistakenly believed it to be real. However, the truth is that there really was an alien invasion, a spearhead for the main force that attacked in 1953; the government asked Orson Welles to produce his infamous play to trivialise the incident, in order to stop widespread panic. Now, in 1988, the residents of Grover's Mill celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the broadcast by holding a fair in the middle of town; also enjoying the festivities are Harrison, Norton, Ironhorse, Suzanne and her daughter Debi, who have been sent on ‘holiday’ by General Wilson. Harrison wastes no time in interviewing a group of military veterans who actually fought the alien invaders; unlike the rest of the townsfolk, these four men are the only ones who can recall the events of 1938, something Harrison attributes to alien-influenced amnesia. Meanwhile, a group of aliens disguised as a motorcycle gang arrive in town, allegedly to bury one of their number – but their real mission is to dig up and reactivate a War Machine buried beneath the town cemetery…
