After narrowly averting a major disaster at an oil rig, the International Rescue team are returning home to their secret base in their Thunderbird craft when space station Thunderbird 5 is critically damaged in an apparent meteor strike. Together with Virgil, Scott and Gordon, Jeff heads off in Thunderbird 3 to rescue John, who has been injured in the accident; however, the attack is really part of a sinister scheme by international master criminal the Hood, as part of a plan to get the Tracy family away from their island. Together with his henchmen, Transom and Mullion, he takes over their headquarters and then drugs Brains into submission. But the Hood has overlooked one key factor: Alan, Tin-Tin and Brains' son, Fermat, are still at large on the island; they manage to contact Lady Penelope and her butler, Parker, but when the two would-be rescuers arrive on the island, they too are captured by the Hood. The arch-villain then steals Thunderbird 2 and sets off for England - where he plans to use International Rescue's Mole drilling vehicle to break into the Bank of London...
