The Doctor

The TARDIS materialises at a South Pole Tracking Station in December 1986. The crew and its commander, General Cutler, are trying to talk down a space capsule that is in trouble, and the Doctor realises this is caused by the gravitational pull of a new planet that has just entered the solar system, heading for Earth. The base is invaded by Cybermen, whose home planet of Mondas was once Earth's twin. Mondas is dying, and it begins to drain the Earth of its energy; meanwhile, the Cybermen plan to take Earth's population to their world in order to turn them into beings like themselves, by replacing their flesh and blood with robotic parts, in order to make them invulnerable. The humans in the base fight back, but Cutler is prevented from using a doomsday Z Bomb due to sabotage caused by Ben. Mondas eventually disintegrates after taking on too much energy, and the Cybermen collapse and die, having been too dependent on power from their home planet. The Doctor is weak from his ordeal, and hurries back to the TARDIS, where he collapses to the floor and changes into a completely different person...
