Ian and Randi

Ian is outraged when his book publisher arranges for him to appear at a fan convention; but when Randi learns that the event is to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the cult science fiction series ‘Beyond the Beyond’ – one of her favourite shows – she manages to talk him into going. Braving a blizzard, the two friends arrive at Moorwood Hall to find the hotel swarming with geeks, all dressed as characters from the show – and to their surprise, one of these costumed fans is Aunt Elsa. With his patience running thin from being mistaken for the Space Sloth of Umlock (from episode thirteen), Ian attends a discussion panel with the show’s three washed-up stars, Guy, Kent and Nicola, presided over by ‘Beyond the Beyond’s creator, Conrad Stipe; whilst Ian is bored out of his mind, Randi, Aunt Else and the rest of the audience are enraptured – even more so when Conrad announces ‘Beyond the Beyond: the Movie’. However, just as Conrad breaks the news that this revival won’t include the original cast, he is killed by a malfunctioning laser canon replica. As Randi and Aunt Elsa resolve to uncover the identity of the murderer, Ian is approached by the movie producer, Winthrop, who offers him the chance of writing the screenplay; Ian begrudgingly agrees, and locks himself away in his room with every episode of the show to help him find inspiration. But then Winthrop gets murdered too, and the movie rights transfer to Ian – making him the murderer’s next target…
