Jeff and Jean are acting as escorts for two contestants in an international beauty contest; Jean is given the task of looking after Miss London, Anne Soames, and Jeff has to chaperone Miss Moscow. While Jeff attempts to get cosy with his assignment, Jean has to find something to interest Miss London, who has seen practically everything in her home city. Miss Soames suggests visiting the Public Records Office, in particular the annexe where all of the most ancient documents such as the Magna Carta are kept. Marty is intrigued, and decides to follow them; as the two women inspect the replica documents, a press photographer arrives, and gives Miss Soames a pair of spectacles to hold while posing for his photos. Marty’s suspicions are confirmed when he sees Miss Soames use the knife edge contained inside the glasses to cut the alarm cable while the others are distracted. Marty tells Jeff, who points out that as there were no witnesses, it seems pointless to tell the police. Instead, Jeff confronts Miss Soames at the hotel, but he is knocked out with a hairbrush, and the woman escapes to warn Pargiter and his two heavies, Dorking and Surrey. Marty materialises inside the vault, where he watches a mechanical arm come through the air duct, opens a drawer, and remove a file. Jeff and Marty follow the trail to a warehouse, where Pargiter tells them that the documents he has stolen from the Public Records Office show that he is the rightful king of England. Jeff scoffs, an act that causes Pargiter to pronounce him as a ‘heretic’ who must die by fire. When Miss Soames becomes furious that Pargiter took a single old file instead of cashing in on all the priceless documents, she too is condemned to burn. The two of them are tied up and left inside the burning warehouse, but Marty is able to break the fire alarm and summon the fire department. The police want to question Jeff, but he points them to Miss Soames, slips away and makes after Pargiter. After Marty spots Pargiter's boat as Jeff drives along the river, a car chase ensues. The police and Jeff cornering Pargiter, who abdicates the throne of England to Jeff.
