'The Glorious Butranekh' by Charlie Higson

When Martika Siderova, the baby of Felia Siderova, Jeff and Jeannie’s ex-secretary, is kidnapped by the sinister Butranekh Cult, the two detectives - with Marty in tow – head off to Latvia to help. While Jeannie and Felia hide from assassins in the sanctity of an old church, Jeff and Marty discover the body of Felia’s husband, Yuri, hidden behind a cupboard in their apartment. After Jeff makes contact with baby Marty’s old nurse, Anna Rubilovi, he learns that the child’s heart stopped for a short time when he was born, and that he also carries a birthmark on his chest; it is these signs that have led the cultists to believe that the baby is reincarnation of their warrior-lord, Butranekh. Following the trail to a sleazy bar, Jeff is then caught up in a high stakes card-game that ends in death. Finding himself on the run with Latvian porn star Pola Sunset, Jeff soon becomes a prisoner of the Butranekh Cult, and the mummified remains of their god…
