Workmen unearth the remains of a five million year old human skull whilst digging a new London Underground station at Hobbs Lane. After Professor Bernard Quatermass arrives to investigate, a huge cylindrical object is found at the dig. Initial fears of it being a bomb are soon replaced with the realisation that it too is five million years old, and came from the planet Mars. But when the capsule is opened, a terrifying ancient force is release which could mean the utter destruction of the entire human race…
