It is election time in the Village, when a new Number 2 is to be voted into office. The current Number 2 invites Number 6 to run against him as a candidate, with the promise that by becoming the next Number 2 he will have the opportunity to discover the identity of Number 1. Number 6 agrees, planning to set the Village’s population free if he wins. But his speeches for freedom go unheard by the mindless villagers, and he soon becomes brainwashed into actually supporting the credo of the Village that he has spent so long in trying to bring down…
