A report of a monster in a block of flats turns out to be a false alarm for Nick and his team when the creature turns out to be an illegally imported snake escaped from its home. Meanwhile, Nick’s estranged wife, Helen, has been captured by the Special Forces team and taken to the Home Office’s maximum-security wing for questioning by Sir James Lester. Although she refuses to divulge how the time portals work, the renegade scientist does offer to help locate one such anomaly before it can unleash a pride of rampaging sabretooth tigers onto the streets of London; while Lester and Claudia are sceptical, Nick knows they cannot take the risk, and so they take Helen to the site of the latest incursion, in the kitchens underneath a football stadium. However, the cunning Helen causes a distraction and escapes back into the past, and when Stephen and Captain Ryan give chase, they find themselves in a field filled with dozens of portals – and no idea which one Helen has taken. As Stephen and Ryan rejoin their colleagues they are followed by a flock of dodos, which cause mayhem until they are rounded up; after one of the flightless birds escapes unnoticed, it is captured by Duncan and Tom, who have been spying on their friend Connor in an effort to find out about his work. When one of the dodos inexplicably dies, Nick, Stephen and Abby conduct an autopsy and discover that inside the bird is a large, vicious, worm-like parasite. Meanwhile, at the nerd’s flat, the missing dodo suddenly turns savage and bites Tom. As his friend falls ill with alarming speed, Duncan is forced to call Connor for help; realising that Tom could infect everyone he comes into contact with, Connor, Nick and the others rush off to help, but they only find the body of the dead dodo. Unless they can find Tom quickly, the team will soon have a pandemic on their hands…
