Learning that a dictatorial gorilla named Aboro is extorting crops and grain from local human farmers, Virdon, Burke and Galen decide to even the situation by stealing a wagon loaded with grain from the apes. But the apes retaliate by torching the barn of one of the farmers, Janor, endangering his life and that of his son, Mikal. Learning that Aboro has used bribery to replace Augustice, the former provincial prefect and Galen’s old friend, the three fugitives vow to expose Aboro’s deeds. After Galen concocts a plan to earn the tyrant’s trust, he learns Aboro’s real plan: to murder General Urko and take over his role as General…
