'Genesis' by John W. Bloch

When motorcycle cop Hal Corman stops an old station wagon on a beach road for a traffic violation, he is driven mad by what he sees inside. Learning of the report David Vincent investigates and traces the van to Selene Lowell, a member of staff at an Oceanographic research laboratory. But Lowell informs Vincent and police Lieutenant Greg Lucather that the vehicle is used by everyone at the sea lab, and is instead more concerned with the fact that the new director of the centre has gone missing. Vincent soon discovers that the invaders are using the research laboratory to create life as part of a secret project to save the life of an alien leader…
