Scotland: in a state of terror, Doctor Travis runs into a quiet Scottish village so that he can use the telephone, but before he can make a call he is shot dead by the postmaster. When the doctor's body is later found dumped in London, one of a dozen scientists who have been missing for months, Nemesis is brought in to investigate. After Richard poses as a scientist he is invited to join 'Project Zero', an apparently legitimate governmental project to create a working fission gun. But the project leader, Voss, is planning to use the gun for his own ends - to enable him to rule the world...
