Immediately after her reactivation, the hybrid has jumped the Cylon baseship to an unknown destination, taking with it President Roslin, Baltar and a number of the Colonial fleet’s best pilots; as the Quorum of Twelve is thrown into panic and disarray, Vice President Zarek sees a way to seize power, and he proposes that he take over the presidency. Shot by Athena, Natalie is rushed to the medical bay for treatment, but Doctor Cottle is unable to save her from her mortal wounds; Admiral Adama is furious with Athena for sabotaging the truce, and he throws her in the brig on charges of murder and betrayal. Apollo faces off with Zarek, and proposes looking for an alternative candidate for the presidency; he turns to Lamkin for help – unaware that the councillor has become unstable. With no trace of the missing baseship or the Resurrection Hub, Adama orders Colonel Tigh to interrogate Number Six on the whereabouts of her comrades; however, Tigh once again sees the face of his dead wife instead of the Cylon. After a raptor scout finds the damaged remains of Roslin’s shuttle, Adama and the command execs extrapolate its flight path to its point of origin: a huge debris field, filled with the destroyed hulks of Cylon and Colonial ships. When Adama confronts Tigh over the revelation that Number Six is pregnant, the two friends come to blows. Realising that he has become obsessed with fining Roslin, Adama decides to relinquish command to Tigh, while he remains behind in a raptor to await the president’s return. Lamkin comes to the conclusion that Apollo is the ideal candidate for the role of president; he tells Apollo the news – and then pulls a gun on him…
