While out on patrol, Apollo and Starbuck encounter another squad of Viper craft. Making contact with their commander, the two pilots learn that the squad is from the Battlestar Pegasus, which was believed to have been destroyed during the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies. Apollo and Starbuck follow the Vipers back to the Pegasus, where they meet its commander, Cain, who is seen as something of a living legend. After Cain takes the Pegasus to rendezvous with the Galactica, he then informs Commander Adama of his plans to destroy a Cylon base on the nearby planet of Gamoray; Cain is convinced that together the two Battlestars will be a match for the Cylons - but Adama believes it to be a suicide mission, and vetos the plan. However, when the Vipers launch an attack on two Cylon freighters in order to obtain fuel, Cain sabotages the assault so that Adama will be forced to go along with the raid on the Cylons...
