When <I>Liberator</I> passes the planet Cephlon, the crew witness an explosion aboard a small spacecraft flying nearby; two life capsules manage to escape and then fall onto the planet surface below. Avon, Vila, Jenna and Gan teleport to the surface to search for the occupants of the capsules, and discover that only a young man named Ensor has survived the crash-landing. Aware of the high radiation levels on the surface, they return to <I>Liberator</I>, but Jenna fails to teleport back. While Cally and Blake remain on board to tend to Ensor, the others return to Cephlon to search for Jenna; they are pursued by mutant scavengers, but encounter the beautiful Meegat, who gives them shelter in an underground bunker. Meegat is a priestess guarding ancient ‘holy’ technology, the use of which now remains a mystery to her people, who have long since lost the secret of its use; and according to prophecy, Avon is the god who has come to save their race. Avon discovers that the people worship a huge spaceship, which contains cells that are to be used in the propagation of a new, uncontaminated planet. Meanwhile, aboard the Federation headquarters space station, Servalan reveals to Travis that she sabotaged Ensor’s spacecraft, causing it to explode; Ensor was en route to the planet Aristo, carrying power cells for his father’s ailing artificial heart. By preventing their delivery, Servalan plans to kill the elder Ensor and then steal his new scientific invention, known only as ‘Orac’. Aboard <I>Liberator</I>, Ensor pulls a gun on Blake and Cally, forcing them to abandon their comrades on the surface, and making them head off to deliver the power cells to his father. On Cephlon, Avon and the others rescue Jenna from the scavengers. Ensor eventually dies from his injuries, and Blake turns the ship around. Avon successfully fulfils the prophecy by launching the rocket-ship into space, paving the way for the continuation of the Cephlon people. Blake then decides to deliver the power cells to Ensor’s father…
