'Lonely Hearts' Story Code '1ADH02' by David Fury

When Doyle experiences a vision that shows him a trendy nightspot known as ‘D’Oblique’, he, Angel and Cordelia immediately set off for the club. As they each work the crowd in an attempt to determine who the helpless person is that requires their help, Doyle and Angel get in a fight defending Cordelia’s honour and are promptly thrown out. The next day, the trio discover that there have been several attacks near the club; Angel returns and overhears a conversation concerning one of the missing victims, and so decides to investigate their apartment. Meanwhile, inside the apartment, its occupant, Sharon, pulls her date closer to her - and then a demon bursts out of her chest and burrows into the man’s back. Angel arrives to find Sharon’s dead body the tail of the demon disappearing into her date’s back. After the man escapes through a window, the police arrive to find Angel standing over the dead body; Angel is almost arrested by Kate, a woman he met at the club the previous two evenings, but he is able to escape and rejoin Cordelia and Doyle. They discover that the creature that Angel saw was a Burrower demon, and that it is afraid of fire. Angel returns to the club in search of the demon, only to be attacked by the bartender, its latest host. Angel destroys the demon by setting it on fire, and he and Kate form an uneasy truce.
