'Blind Date' Story Code '1ADH21' by Jeannine Renshaw

While dealing with several vampires, Angel encounters a young blind woman – who beats him up with ease before vanishing into the night. Carry out some research, Cordelia learns from the LAPD online records that the woman is Vanessa Brewer, currently on trial for a double homicide, and whose defending council is none other than Wolfram and Hart’s golden boy Lindsey McDonald. Angel attends the trial, throwing the courtroom into disarray by throwing a pair of sunglasses at Vanessa, who inadvertently demonstrates her uncanny power. After Vanessa is found innocent Lee Mercer instructs Lindsey to prepare another defence, as Vanessa will soon be carrying out more ‘work’ for the firm by dealing with some children who pose a threat; Lindsey is disturbed, and he turns to Angel Investigations for help in breaking into Wolfram and Hart’s vaults for information on the assassin and the children. Angel elicits Gunn’s aid in the break-in, and by using Lindsey’s information on the firm’s defences, the vampire soon gains access to the vault; inside he takes the relevant computer disks, as well as an artefact that catches his eye while making his escape. In the W&H offices, Lindsey’s bosses call in mind readers to expose an incident of duplicity amongst its employees; Lindsey is concerned that he will be found out, but the traitor is Lee, who has been in secret talks with a rival firm, Kline & Gabler. Lee is killed, and Lindsey is offered the chance of a hefty promotion by his boss, Holland. Back at Angel Investigations, Angel finds an ancient Aramaic scroll inside the artefact. With the help of a phone call to Willow in Sunnydale, Cordelia is able to decipher law firm’s files; she learns that after Vanessa took her own sight, she studied Bai-Jar for five years with the Order of Nan Gin, a group of cave-dwelling monks who taught her to see with the heart and not the mind. Vanessa’s her latest targets are Seers, three children whose power increases as they mature. Having learnt the Seers’ location, Angel and Lindsey arrive just in time to them from Vanessa, and the assassin is swiftly dealt with. Back at Angel Investigations, Lindsey informs Angel that the scroll bears the Prophecy of Obearsian – and that it mentions Angel himself... Some time later, Lindsey sits in his new office, having decided to accept his new role as a Junior Partner, believing Wolfram and Hart to be where he belongs.
