Mysterious objects appear on Alpha, blinding a hydroponics assistant and sending a technician into a catatonic trance. The boisterous and flamboyant trader known as the Taybor lands on the lunar surface in his spaceship, the <I>S.S. Emporium</I>. He announces that he has come from hyper-space to trade with the Alphans; however, it seems that the gifts that preceded his arrival proved to be too advanced, and he assures Doctor Russell that her two patients are not permanently harmed. Commander Koenig becomes interested in the <I>S.S. Emporium</I>'s jump drive, which could return his crew to Earth. The Taybor is willing to trade, but he refuses Koenig’s offer of Moonbase Alpha, complete with its fixtures and fittings - instead, he wants the beautiful Maya, and will stop at nothing to add her to his collection of the galaxy's most beautiful objects...
